In 1994, a flood drowns a radio archive, corrupting the magnetic traces of a voice. The voice disappears from the ruined and deteriorated tapes, testifying to the fragility of memory and the precariousness of its archives, which are not presented as firm and persistent architectures but as uncertain and temporary landscapes. Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, an Italian poet, performer and sound artist, rediscovers the reels, many of which have undergone irreversible processes of degradation, and chooses haunting as a way to access that archive, not to re-institute, repair and reintegrate it within a regime of visibility and permanence, but to create the conditions for its reappearance, desiring and spectral.

Haunted is a dramaturgy of remembrance, pouring into the subtle circuits of the analogue a polyphony of field recordings, letter recordings, dream recordings, voices, sound fragments and live sounds between archaeology and imagination.

The performance – necromantic, hauntological and analogical – sits on the border between sonic narrative and active listening practices.

Bio

Gaia Ginevra Giorgi is an author, sound artist and performer. As a researcher, she is transversally active in the performing arts field, developing practices and methodologies of investigation for an affective and political rewriting of the landscape. Her practice integrates writing, sound, voice and performative devices. Her interventions produce ephemeral habitats, spaces for embodied and radical imagination.
She curates the radio programme Walk so silently that the bottom of your feet become ears (Fango Radio) and is a resident artist at Radio Raheem.
Giorgi is also co-founder of collectives Extragarbo and Call Monica. She is an author, dramaturg and performer of several theatre and performance projects. She has been invited by institutions such as Istituto Svizzero (Milan), BASE Milano (Milan), Centrale Fies (Dro), Short Theatre (Rome), Schlachthaus Theater (Bern), Espacio Fundación Telefónica (Madrid), Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (Frankfurt), Barcelona Poesia (Barcelona). Supported by INDEX, she has been selected as one of 2024’s emerging artists by Exibart.
