SILVIA CALDERONI + ILENIA CALEO

April 19, 2024
h. 19:00
Museo della Città

Silvia Calderoni and Ilenia Caleo start from the bodily gesture and the liquid substance of Zen for Head, a work in which Nam June Paik dipped his head in paint, drew a line on paper, and then left the artwork open for anyone to reproduce.
Calderoni and Caleo have translated Paik’s action into five directions:
_working with materials, be it paint, paper, a bucket or something else.
_working with traces, leaving a trace, like snails.
_working with liquid substances.
_working (as in the poetics of Flu水o) on a duration determined by a concrete temporality: the exhaustion of a material, the evaporation of a substance, the consumption of all energy.
_working with the body as it is, in its physical, dynamic presence.

Bio

Calderoni-Caleo met in 2012 at the Teatro Valle Occupato in the context of Motus’s Animale politico project and began a shared project between artistic residencies, research ateliers and performances. Since 2017, they have been teaching Visual Arts at IUAV in Venice. Starting from the workshop of Biennale Theatre College in 2018, they created KISS (2019), a performance project with 23 performers, produced by Santarcangelo Festival, CSS Udine and Motus VAGUE. For the Queering Platform of Freespace West Kowloon in Hong Kong, they designed the nomad project SO IT IS. In 2021, they participated in Flu水o, the cross-disciplinary project that won the 9th edition of the Italian Council, for which they developed the performance thefutureisNOW?. In 2022, they created the installation Pick Pocket Paradise for the exhibition Espressioni con frazioni at Castello di Rivoli – Museo di Arte Contemporanea (Turin). They are associate artists of the Italian Pavilion at the Architecture Biennale 2023. In 2023, their last performance work, The present is not enough, debuted in Hamburg. It was co-produced by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo – Mattatoio | Progetto Prender-si Cura, Kampnagel (Hamburg), Kunstencentrum Vooruit vzw (Ghent), Motus Vague.
Besides artistic projects, they share a little bit of everything in life.
