After her electrifying presence at Futuro Fantastico/Santarcangelo Festival 2021, filmmaker Marie Losier—renowned for her unmistakable style—returns to Italy with Peaches Goes Bananas, a new documentary about Canadian artist Peaches. Premiered at Venice Days and Filmmaker Milano, the film offers Supernova’s audience a unique dive into Peaches’ queer punk universe, captured through Losier’s intimate, affectionate lens over 17 years.
Peaches Goes Bananas delivers an intense, authentic portrait of Peaches onstage and off, from packed concerts to private moments with her sister Suri. It celebrates an artist who shatters taboos with inexhaustible energy, turning every facet of her life and body into art.
From the opening scene—where Peaches sings “Vaginoplasty / Why do you ask me? / Vaginoplasty / I keep it nasty”—Losier crafts a provocative yet tender journey exploring fluidity and bodily transformation through drag, gender defiance, and the gritty texture of 16mm film.
With her singular aesthetic, Losier reaffirms her stature in experimental cinema. The film stands among her most personal works, a celebration of art as a frontier where mutation and identity are embraced without judgment.
