Enter the right bridge. Unlearn what you have learned over the years in the West. Music is against existence. It has a glorious power over you. It makes you lose yourself, as if someone were gently hammering through your flesh outward. Enter the right bridge, where I wait for you on the Middle Path, bent over a golden table. You are welcome and blessed to read with your heart and to leaf through lost ethereal dictionaries. We live as we are meant to be; collectively eternal — searching for a folder of unwritten proofs. But do words matter after suffering? Religions expire. Sound is the medium. A positive dose to be able to seek them.
My solo work is an escape of freedom. It is the first time in my career, after years of collaborating with many artists and compromising on what I feared sharing. I went out with the first instruments I used before working with others, to put together an album inspired by nothing, with what I had next to me spontaneously, raw but direct like a child’s first words. A call to play all the roles together. A raw state of improvisation. I found salvation in the first instruments I used: nature, voice, and software.

(Abdullah Miniawy)

“Nigma” means “star” in the Egyptian dialect — written like this: نجمة. “Enigma” is the dilemma of dialogue. It is a quest through voice, modulars, samples from radio stations, and walks through the solitary nights of Paris that led Abdullah Miniawy, Egyptian writer, singer, composer, and actor, to question his art once more. The work imagines an Opera for Muslims, which falls into intact definitions like Paradise and Hell, intersecting and merging with Coptic culture, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and The Divine Comedy.
