SEMPRE QUA SIAMO

SARA LEGHISSA

Within the project Ciàlte Ciàlte…

Building on a broader research corpus investigating the (in)visibility of some bodies in public spaces, the project opens conversations with various micro-communities that struggle to take the floor in some contexts. This opens up questions about sociality, legality, marginality, struggle, grassroots community-building and autobiographical narration.
For Supernova, Sara Leghissa met with some of the people temporarily hosted at Casa Don Gallo, an organization founded in 2013 in the spaces of Casa Madiba, in response to the housing emergency in the Municipality of Rimini.
Following a practice the artist has been experimenting with for years, the content of some of these conversations will become posters for public spaces.

Bio

Sara Leghissa is an independent artist based in Milan. Her practice mainly happens in public spaces, following a principle of the ecology of resources, using as much as possible what is already available. Leghissa creates systems and devices that attempt to blend in with the surrounding context, conveying images and messages that meet and intercept different audiences using accessible and ordinary technologies.
She co-founded the artistic project Strasse and collaborated with various artists and collectives, including Teatro Valdoca, -Dom, Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin, Muta Imago, Jacopo Miliani, Daniela Bershan, Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė.
Leghissa presented her work in Italian and international events such as Santarcangelo Festival (IT), Triennale Teatro dell’Arte (IT), Short Theatre (IT), far Festival (CH), Festival Parallele (FR), Saal Biennal (EE), Mir Festival (GR), Beursschouwburg (BE). For the Italian scene, she co-organises Nobody’s Business, an independent platform for the exchange of performing arts practices; NESSUNO, a place to generate communities and resistance through partying; and Una Sauna, a wooden room containing the tools to obtain high-temperature dry air, which then becomes a device for establishing collective practices.
She also published the books Will you marry me? and La scuola ha riaperto come dopo una nevicata, both with NERO Editions.
