A performative reading of digital tarot – a ritual merging digital and physical realms that repurposes the algorithms typically shaping online content into collective moments of reflection and connection.

In an era when geographically-rooted rituals disappear while digital rites multiply exponentially across social media (creating a vast global network of often-unconscious collective practices), algorithms become vehicles for users’ expanded random rituals – fragments of belonging that unconsciously carry archetypal meanings.

This work stems from MOC’s research on “expanded rituals” emerging from algorithmic bubbles – the personalized digital environments created through suggested content. The artist examines how traditional rituals, often tied to specific cultural practices, are being reshaped by these algorithmic currents.

A collective ritual experience transcending solipsistic media consumption, meditating on traditional ritual’s role as space for exchange, healing and collective manifestation beyond individualism.

 Bio

Mara Oscar Cassiani (MOC),  is a wifi based artist, who works with performance, choreography, digital media and club culture. MOC explores how digital platforms shape collective consciousness, engaging with the aesthetics, semiotics, and rituals of online communities to reveal the intersections between personal expression and mass cultural phenomena. Moving fluidly between online and offline peripheries, MOC investigates the loss of geographical roots and the new rituals emerging from globalisation and the erosion of local heritage. MOC’s work has been showcased at La Quadriennale di Roma Q16, Kiasma Museum Helsinki, Kunstenfestivaldesarts Brussels, Santarcangelo Festival, Vorspiele Transmediale Berlin, Vernulvier Ghent theatre, Homo Novus Riga, RomaEuropaFestival.
